104.1 2day in australia

first I just want to say that is it really cool that i can sit in my small room in Salem, MA, USA and be listening to a radio station that is broadcasting from Australia. i was really hoping to get a station from S. Africa but i couldn't get one to work. however, here i am listening to ads for all these events and items from australia, being amazed by the power of the radio. With web streaming, the internet has taken radio to the next level. we come from a generation that never really apperciated the radio. it was not our source of entertainment or information, but now with the internet, it has become bigger and can reach more people. all of the advertising on these stations not only reach those in the country but everyone listening over the web. you never really realize how much the world is connected. we all listened to some station some place far away. also you see how much popular culture is very similiar in different places. on the sites are pictures of the same artist we admire in the united states and as i listen the same song i sing to play on the station. its interesting how similiar the current generations are no matter where in the world they are living.

okay, so crazy. I listened to this station and Hoobstank blares through my speakers. It's insane to think that thousands of miles away a totally different culture listens to the same music as we do. It was cool to see Gwen Stephani on their webpage. I think its great that we can listen to radio stations outside of the country.

After listening to this station, I was reminded how similar the stations are and was able to listen to a few different ones while I was actually in Australia last semester. The music selection over there is almost the same as ours, whereas, they listen to the same artists as we do. It was strange, however, to drive on the left side of the road while listening to american music on the radio.
